New Comfortable Trains for the Olympic Games
According to the Russian Railways research almost 50 percent of all passengers coming to the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi will use trains to reach the city. That was the main reason to start new comfortable Lastochka trains to run between the city center and the local airport and offer clients the fastest way (less than an hour) to get to the city center and back.
Sochi is not the only city in Russia offering air-rail service. It is also available in Moscow, Kazan, Ekaterinburg and Vladivostok.
This new type of electric locomotive has specially been developed for mostly commuter transport in Russia.
It can operate in almost extreme weather conditions when the air temperature varies between -35 and 40 degrees Celsius, under high humidity and icing conditions.
Moreover, the new Lastochkas are the first and at the moment the only trains in Russia which have wheelchair lifts. In fact, all Russian Railways facilities in Sochi have been constructed or renovated to accommodate disabled passengers.
